Large-scale demonstration – P-Net

P-Net is researching the optimization and open questions of phosphorus recovery in the form of struvite, the so-called struvite track, in order to make it fit for the entry into force of the amended Sewage Sludge Ordinance. The advantages of these plants in fertilizer production are to be preserved and made more widely usable. The focus is on establishing a regional network for phosphorus recycling to strengthen this technology.

Background on the project

Description of the plant

The existing plant components will be integrated into the concept so that no new plant components are initially required or need to be built. This will initially be implemented on a large scale at the two municipal sewage treatment plant sites in Braunschweig (partners SE|BS and AVB) and Gifhorn (partner ASG).

Implementation status

Initial large-scale trials to implement the process with continuous operation have been carried out using one of the existing digesters in Braunschweig. Preparations for the first large-scale trial in Gifhorn are underway.

Outlook

The implementation of the Peco process is intended to demonstrate successful large-scale operation and thus act as a multiplier to convince other plants and players of the benefits of P recycling via the struvite route.
